Gunman kills 6 in Czech hospital prior to shooting himself

OSTRAVA, Czech Republic (Reuters) – A 42- year-old shooter eliminated 6 individuals on Tuesday at a medical facility waiting space in the eastern Czech city of Ostrava before getting away and fatally shooting himself in the head, cops said.

It was the worst shooting in the Czech Republic, where gun criminal offense is relatively unusual, considering that a man shot eight individuals dead and then killed himself at a restaurant in Uhersky Brod in2015

It was uncertain what inspired the shooting, which happened in the morning at the outpatient clinic of the University Health Center in Ostrava, 350 km (217 miles) east of the capital Prague and near the border with Poland.

Prime Minister Andrej Babis informed reporters it was an “specific act”.

The shooter left the healthcare facility after the attack, triggering a manhunt including numerous officers. He later shot himself in the head at his vehicle with a cops helicopter flying overhead.

He died about a half an hour later after authorities stopped working to resuscitate him, Interior Minister Jan Hamacek stated outside the healthcare facility. “The perpetrator of this horrendous act is dead.”

Czech Radio, citing the director of the company where he worked, determined the suspect as a local construction service technician and stated he had actually been on medical leave.

Reuters could not right away confirm that.

Police said they received calls at 7: 19 a.m. (0619 GMT) and officers were on the scene five minutes later on.

Health center director Jiri Havrlant told press reporters five individuals passed away in the attack and one passed away in surgery. Another 2 were seriously injured but no medics were injured, he stated.

Victims had been contended close quarters, he stated. They were all adults: 4 men and 2 ladies.

The head of the regional police department, Tomas Kuzel, stated the enemy was quiet as he carried out the shooting and there was no sign of accomplices.

Authorities dispatched 2 helicopters to hunt him. “When the helicopter was over the automobile, the criminal shot himself in the head,” Kuzel said. “He died from self-inflicted wounds.”
