LA Times Movie Critic: Trump Stating He Likes ‘Opted For the Wind’ Is a ‘Racist Pet Dog Whistle’

Los Angeles Times movie critic Justin Chang stated Friday on CNN that President Donald Trump pointing out the movie ” Gone With the Wind” at his rally was a “racist pet dog whistle.”

Chang said, “It’s kind of regrettable, I believe, that we have a president whose entire presidency is founded on xenophobia and of course his remarks are not surprising coming from someone who likes to dehumanize individuals of other cultures and people of color. None of that’s unexpected.”

He continued, “Well, that whole thing, “Gone with the Wind” and “Sundown Boulevard,” that all smacks of a canine whistle hearkening back to an earlier era of Hollywood success. Look, we can like “Gone with the Wind,” and also acknowledge it’s the romantic view of the old South, which numerous individuals discover problematic.

He included, “I think it’s real laziness on his part. I believe to state that. You understand, a lot of individuals say this, there are no films being made in the present today that are as excellent as the classics that were made 50 or 60 years ago.
