Berlin Highway Crash Is Investigated as a Terrorist Attack

BERLIN– A series of apparently deliberate crashes on a Berlin highway Tuesday night is being treated as a possible Islamist terrorist attack, German authorities and district attorneys stated Wednesday.

Police overpowered and detained a 30- year-old Iraqi-born guy Tuesday night, after he supposedly rammed his cars and truck into several lorries on the A100 highway that bisects the German capital, police spokeswoman Patricia Bremer stated.

After coming to a stop, the suspect got out of the vehicle and put an old ammunition cage on its roofing, recommending it could be a weapon, Berlin authorities and prosecutors stated in a joint statement. A search of the automobile found the box consisted of work tools.

” Utterances made by the suspect after his act suggest an Islamist motive,” the declaration said, adding that investigators hadn’t discovered any proof that the suspect was a member of a terrorist company.

The crashes, which police think were intentional and involved at least one moped and one bike, left 6 individuals wounded, three seriously, Berlin’s firefighting department stated on Wednesday. Some 300 individuals who were stranded on the highway as an outcome were evacuated on foot, authorities stated.
